Cork Hurling Video Analysis Dartfish

May 31

Just wanted to say a quick well done to the Cork Hurling team who got their championship season off to a great start at the weekend by beating Tipperary. It’s only May 31st so still along way to go in the season but I know the analysis work that has been done today using Dartfish and its great to see some reward at the end of it.

Well done Cork and Keep it up.

SINI Announce Dartfish Partnership

May 13

I am really delighted to announce this officially. Last week SINI (Sports Institute of Northern Ireland) released the press release below. This is a fantastic relationship for both SINI and Dartfish, and going forward I think the athletes based in SINI will continue to receive top class sports science support as many of them prepare for London 2012.

Over the coming weeks I will be posting examples of some of the work Johnny Bradley and his team use Dartfish for. So Stay tuned!

Press Release

The Sports Institute Northern Ireland (SINI) has announced a new two year partnership with Dartfish, a world leader in video analysis innovation, naming them as preferred supplier of video analysis software.

Jonathan Bradley, Lead Performance Analyst for SINI, discussed the significance of the partnership, saying,

“We have been using Dartfish in SINI for a number of years now and we believe this new partnership will allow us to further improve the provision of performance analysis in SINI. Dartfish makes it possible for us to provide athletes and their coaches 24-hour access to performance analysis services anywhere in the world. This allows a more flexible and responsive approach to working in partnership with coaches and athletes, particularly during training camps and international competitions.

We will be utilising Dartfish software across a diverse range of sports, including athletics, archery, basketball and rowing. I look forward to working with Dartfish in the future, and we are confident that their innovation, combined with SINI’s expertise, will allow us to find out new and original ways of maximising the performances of our athletes.”

Rob Carroll of Dartfish Ireland, also welcomed the announcement, commenting,

“Dartfish are delighted to have formed this partnership with SINI. It gives both parties an excellent opportunity to help each other over the coming years. SINI have taken a giant leap forward in terms of the implementation of Dartfish across their organisation and in the long run this will significantly benefit the athletes of Northern Ireland.”

Swim Ireland

Mar 08

It is too rare that I get to see a Performance Analyst using Dartfish in a real world environment. So I was delighted to get the opportunity to go out to the National Aquatic Centre last Wednesday and spend some time with the high performance team and see Matt McCusker (Analyst) in action. What was most pleasing was to see the look on the athletes faces as they saw exactly what the coaches see each week. They couldn’t believe they were swimming like that until they saw themselves on video.

There was no great science behind it all. Matt was simply able to record an action, the swimmers hopped out of the pool they slowed the footage down and paused at key moments before getting back in the pool and trying again. Very simple but very very effective.

It was also a great opportunity to try out the Hosand Aqua system for the first time. The information from this is staggering. We only tried the belts with 3 athletes and I hope to be back out over the next couple of weeks to test it further but so far so good.

Dublin Football & Kilmacud Crokes Video Analysis

Dec 14

This is a snippet from the main video on the home page. Both Ray and Pairic are some of our longest serving users and have lifted many trophies since their involvement with Dartfish. Both have become excellent users over the years and we wish them every success in 2010.

We are especially proud that it is not just Dartfish they have been delighted with, but also the service and support we have offered them over the years.

Why you need to analyse (Video or Notational)

Dec 10

I often meet coaches here in Ireland who still consider match analysis as a bit of a fad. There are many reasons why match analysis is important and if used correctly can be a excellent tool in player improvement.

One of the big reasons match analysis is so important is that your ability to process and remember information during a game is quite limited. To prove how limited it is and for you non-believers out their I devised this little memory test.

What level will you get?

Cork GAA & Video Analysis

Sep 28

Quick post just to say congrats to 2 Dartfishers at the weekend. Cork Ladies won in Croke Park on Sunday by the narrowest of margins against a fellow Dartfish team Dublin.

Clonakilty won the Cork title for the first time in 13 years on Sunday. Well done to Brendan Smyth and Co. at the club. I’m sure Clon will be looking to go as far as possible in the All Ireland Championship.

Ladies GAA: Dublin v Cork

Sep 22

Just a quick note to say good luck to both Cork ad Dublin in this weekends Ladies GAA Football Final. Video Analysts for both teams have been hard at it all season and we wish them luck on the big day.

This is Dublin Ladies 3rd season using Dartfish and Cork’s first (with the help of Len Browne).

Unfortunately there can be only one winner but at least that will guarantee Dartfish it’s first All Ireland Ladies title.

Best of luck to both teams.

Dartfsh Perfromance Analysis

There were some great performances by the Dartfish family at the weekend. Especially of note was Cork’s win against Kerry in the Munster Semi-Final Replay. I know Conor Counihan and Performance Analyst John Murphy will have been hard at work over the last few months preparing for the game. And with such a comprehensive win it looks like it has paid off. Still along way to go to All-Ireland success but congrats to Performance Analyst John Murphy.
